The Value of Content

So many people are interested in search engine optimization, revenue generation, and the look of a web site that the most important factor, “the content” is overlooked. What does the average web surfer go on the Internet to do? I would say the majority are attempting to find information. Not just that, but good quality information. This is becoming increasingly difficult to do. Many web sites that come up for your searches do not provide this. They may be link farms, or google ad pages, or simply pages with no substance to them.

The focus has seemed to gone away from making a good web site with valuable information for web surfers to increasing traffic or gaining higher search ranks. What good is a high rank if the site that the person is visiting is absolute rubbish? That person will never visit the site again. The most successful web site have a large fanbase of repeat visitors. For real estate its all location location location, for web sites its content content content. The sooner people realize this the better the Internet will become.

Building a Web Community: How To Successfully Create and Run Forums

Building a community of web users to your web site cannot be underestimated. A fan base or gathering of like minded people can be extremely important. That will feed interaction between your web site and the people that visit it. It can also breed loyalty to your company, web site or product. Listening to the users of your web site and their thoughts on any changes or additions or products produced by your site or company is another vital element in the development of a web site. If you have built a community with a forum, a blog, or a chat you have a direct link into your consumers.

It’s not just good enough to create a forum and let it rest though. Too many times I see barron or misused forums on web sites. If you are going to properly build a community there are a few requirements that need to be adhered to.

First of all, it is important that there is proper moderation by admins. As web communities continue to grow I cannot stress the importance of a community co-ordinator or someone directly responsible for the effective running of your form or message board. If your forum is in dissaray it will often turn off many visitors to your web site, and make it less likely for them to return. Creating a thriving community can only enhance the standing of your web site and taking the neccessary steps to ensure its effectiveness should not be taken lightly. The community you run will reflect on how well you run your web site. If you leave it to decay, if you don’t update your web site, people simply will forget about your web site and won’t come back.
It is also important to be aware of the changing technologies in web community creation. Forum and blog software is constantly changing, and is important that you stay up to date with the latest trends and software. If you don’t upgrade your forum software for over 2 years you will most likely be left in the dust.

Another important aspect is to draw more people to your forum. Make it a high priority of the web site and make sure your forums link is correctly positioning on your main page. A area to display the latest posts on your forum can also attract people to your forum. Reward your community with extra content that is not available on the main site. Interact with the people do not sit idly by, the more you put into a community, the more you will get out of it.

I’ve seen too many ineffective forums on web sites. The main reason is simple neglect by the web site owner and administrators. The rewards for building communities with your web site are their, but only if you are prepared to work hard for them.
